DFB declares interest to host World Cup

The German Football Association (Deutscher Fußball-Bund) has submitted the official letter of intent to document the interest in hosting the 2011 FIFA Women’s World Cup. The letter addressed to FIFA, the world’s governing body of football, was signed by DFB President Dr. Theo Zwanziger and General Secretary Horst R. Schmidt. The letter was submitted in due time.

In a covering note addressed to FIFA General Secretary Urs Linsi, Horst R. Schmidt wrote: “Women’s football enjoys an increasing popularity in Germany. Games of our national team are broadcast on major television stations. Home games draw tremendous crowds. Our team has played a beautiful game over the last few years. Hereby we submit our letter of intend to document our interest in hosting the 2011 FIFA Women’s World Cup. We look forward to the process, and we will work hard at handing in a good bidding document to FIFA. We look forward to a productive exchange.”

These milestones will mark the bidding process:

March 1, 2007: Deadline for Letter of Intent

By declaring their intent, member associations commit themselves to honour these dates:

March 8, 2007: Mailing of the Event Contract, List of Requirements

May 3, 2007: Deadline for the bidding declaration

August 1, 2007: Submit date for the Official Bidding document including the event contract and the bidding dossier

August 31, 2007: FIFA Executive Committee decides on the host for the 2011 FIFA Women’s World Cup
