The DFB Cup second round fixtures get under way on the 25th and 26th October. DFB.de summarises all of the information about the Tuesday games which will kick off at 20:45 CEST, including a classic between Gladbach and Stuttgart, among others.

Hallescher FC vs. Hamburger SV

Head-to-head: Both teams are meeting for the first time in a competitive fixture.

First round results: Hallescher FC drove 1. FC Kaiserlautern to despair in their first round match. After trailing 3-2 however, Kaiserlautern scored a last minute equaliser, to take the game into extra-time. Klaus Gjasula then scored a penalty in the 94th minute to secure a 4-3 win for the Drittliga side. Hamburger SV played FSV Zwickau in their opening match of the cup and were frustrated for long periods. Alen Halilovic then eventually scored the winner for HSV, with the game finishing 1-0.

2015/16 DFB Cup run: Hallescher FC lost their first round match 1-0 to Eintracht Braunschweig in last year’s competition. HSV also lost their opening round match, against Regionalliga side FC Carl Zeiss Jena, 2-3 after extra-time.

Eintracht Frankfurt vs. FC Ingolstadt

Head-to-head: The most recent encounter between the two sides, was won by Eintracht. David Abraham and Bastian Oczipka scored the goal as Frankfurt beat Ingolstadt 2-0 on matchday 4 of the Bundesliga. Overall however, the head-to-record is all square. Both teams have recorded one victory over each other and played out three draws. Both teams have also scored exactly five goals each in those fixtures.

First round results: 1. FC Magdeburg proved to be challenging opponents for Eintracht Frankfurt. After leading through Branimir Hrgota, the Drittliga side then equalised. The game then head to be decided on penalties, with Eintracht holding their nerve in a 4-3 shootout win. Ingolstadt’s first round clash was even more thrilling. Their game against Erzgebirge Aue finished 0-0 in normal time and then subsequently went to penalties, after a goalless extra-time. Ingolstadt won the shootout -7, with Tobias Levels scoring the decisive spot-kick.

Pre-match comments: Eintracht Chairman Fredi Bobic: “It’s great that we have a home tie. It is always an important factor in the cup. Ingolstadt have a great team and will be a tough opponent, but I think we are capable of getting the win.”

2015/16 DFB Cup run: Eintracht Frankfurt exited last year’s competition in the second round, losing 0-1 to Erzgebirge Aue. Ingolstadt, however, were knocked out in the first round. They lost 1-2 to SpVgg Unterhaching in last year’s competition.

FC St. Pauli vs. Hertha BSC

Head-to-head: In what is their only DFB Cup encounter to date, FC St. Pauli overcame Hertha 4-3 in extra-time. However, Hertha’s noses are just in front in their league duels. BSC have won eight and drawn eight, while losing just four.

First round results: FC St. Pauli dominated their first round game against VfB Lübeck. Vegar Eggen Hedenstad, Sören Gonther and Marvin Ducksch all scored in a comfortable 3-0 win. Hertha BSC’s opening round game was far more entertaining. The Bundesliga outfit progressed thanks to a perfectc penalty shootout, against the newly promoted Drittlifa side, Jahn Regensburg. Salomon Kalou scored the decisive penalty, in a 5-3 shootout win.

Pre-match comments: Head coach Ewald Lienen: “We are obviously delighted that we are playing at home, even if Hertha BSC are the favourites. The Berlin side will obviously want to draw on their fantastic performances last season. We will, however, try our hardest to to make it through to the next round, with the superb support of our fans.

2015/16 DFB Cup run: FC St. Pauli bowed out against Borussia Mönchengladbach, losing 4-1 away from home. Hertha BSC, however, made it all the way to the semi-final, where they lost 3-0 to Borussia Dortmund.

Borussia Mönchengladbach vs. VfB Stuttgart

Head-to-head: A classic encounter continues, as the these two teams will play out their 97th game against each other in the second round tie. Although VfB have a better head-to-head league record (38 wins, 28 draws, 30 defeats), it is Gladbach who have been more successful in the cup clashes. Both the 2-0 third round result in 1981 and the 4-2 result in the last sixteen game in 2003, were won by Borussia. Both teams also faced each other in the semi-final of the UEFA Cup in 1980. Although Vfb won the first-leg 2-1, it was Borussia who progressed to the final, after they won the return leg 2-0.

First round results: The Fohlenelf overcame Regionalliga side SV Drochtersen/Assel 1-0. Julian Korb scored the only goal of the game in the 55th minute. VfB Stuttgart’s first round victory over FC Homburg was a little more convincing. Goals from Christian Gentner, Berkay Özcan and Boris Taschtschi secured a 3-0 win for VfB.

Pre-match comments: VfB Chairman Jan Schindelmeiser: “It is a bit of a shame that we are playing away from home. Mönchengladbach will be a very difficult team to beat, but it will be an exciting challenge.

2015/16 DFB Cup run: Werder Bremen overcame Borussia in last year’s round-of-16 game, in what was a goalfest. Gladbach eventually lost 3-4, with a brace from Branimir Hrgota and a goal from Lars Stindl not enough for the Fohlenelf.
