DFB and SAP extend partnership

The DFB and SAP have extended their co-innovation partnership by a further three years. The DFB and the market leader for software company are therefore continuing with their existing partnership, which begun officially in 2013. SAP is the “official premium partner of the DFB and the national team.” In terms of big sporting events for the future, the innovative further development of technology is at the forefront of this partnership. Above all, it is about processing, using and visualising mass data for match and training analysis for the German national team.

“We want to secure the long-term and sustained success of the DFB and we need strong and innovative partners like SAP for that,” said DFB general secretary Dr. Friedrich Curtius. Oliver Bierhoff, executive manager of the national team, explained that “the digital transformation has been a long time coming in football. Here, we want to continue to be a global pioneer and will work together with SAP on further improvements.”

Lars Lamadé, responsible at SAP for sponsorships in Europe and Asia, added, “A close sporting and personal partnership between SAP and the DFB exists and is something we are proud of. Live data, modern technologies and the internet are things which have revolutionised football on the pitch as well as in preparation and post-match analysis in games and tournaments. We are creating new prospects and opportunities in order to use data and technology to the maximum for the success of our partner DFB.”

DFB and SAP: Serial title winners

Co-innovation projects by DFB and SAP in the past have supported the national teams in winning the 2014 World Cup in Brazil, the Confederations Cup in Russia in 2017 and the U21 European Championship also in 2017 in Poland. Part of this has been:

• “SAP Match Insights”: The use of this on the SAP Cloud Platform makes analysis of training easier and with that improves preparations for major tournaments. It makes it possible for the coaches and scouts to process large amounts of data as well as to identify and evaluate important moments in matches.

• “SAP Challenger Insights”: Players and coaches are able to examine the scouting reports on opponents with the use of video, analyse templates and come up with a game-plan from it.

• “Penalty Insights” for SAP Sports One: With the App based on the SAP Cloud Platform, goalkeepers and coaches are able to study the way in which players take penalties.
