Dahoud on the derby victory: "It was a present for the fans"

After every game, the press speaks to a host of Germany internationals to find out their reaction to the action. DFB.de searches each week for the top quotes from these internationals. This week, we see what the players, including Mahmoud Dahoud, Christoph Kramer, Matthias Ginter and Sven Bender, had to say about their matches.

Borussia Mönchengladbach 1-0 Köln

Mahmoud Dahoud: We're extremely happy about the three points. A derby win is always something special and I'm particularly pleased for our fans. I'm obviously also happy about my goal, but the win was down to the whole team's work. Raffael did incredibly well in the build-up to my goal and made the chance possible. That really sums up how well we played together as a team today.

Yannick Gerhardt: The performance wasn’t good enough for a derby. Obviously, we reacted well in the second half but playing well for only 45 minutes isn’t enough against a team as strong as Borussia. It’s really annoying that we slept through the first half.

Bayer Leverkusen 0-1 Borussia Dortmund

Christoph Kramer: After the goal and the interruption in play, we played how you have to play against Dortmund. We played the ball around well and had some good moments. The first half was very disjointed, as both teams weren’t at their fittest. We were too passive before the break. That was because we wanted them to come to us, as both teams weren’t at their most energetic. But that isn’t really our style and we weren’t able to do it.

Sven Bender: It was a massive victory today, and the game was really close. Right now we are playing excellently in defence. Whoever starts is on it right away, knows exactly what to do and how we play. We can always swap one-for-one and there is no loss of quality. Against Leverkusen there are normally one or two hairy situations, we know that. They are a top team. We won 1-0, didn’t concede – a good day.

Mats Hummels: We are doing great work together right now as a team, especially defensively. We don’t give away many chances and have that little bit of luck, like, for example, today, when Chicharito fortunately didn’t take his chance.

Matthias Ginter: Situations like the one that occurred in front of our goal happen all the time in football. As such, I simply can’t wait until the two behind me have stood up. It was a clear foul before that.

Schalke 1-1 Stuttgart

Johannes Geis: We played well in the first half and didn’t give Stuttgart many opportunities. Then we lost our grip on the game slightly. Having played in Ukraine on Thursday night we didn’t quite have the energy, but that’s normal in these busy European weeks. It’s annoying that we conceded the equaliser. But life goes on, even if the point is in my opinion too little. In the end we lacked that little bit of luck. Otherwise we might have been able to double our lead. In such a busy period as we’re in now, it’s easy to forget about games like this quickly enough.

Timo Werner: Both teams had their chances during the match. A draw was a fair result. We were unlucky to concede, but at the moment, we have the confidence in ourselves to get over setbacks like that and fight back.

Hertha 1-1 Wolfsburg

Julian Draxler: Looking at the way the game went, a draw was a fair result. Looking at how the table is, it would obviously have been nice to have taken home all three points. Considering we have already played one match this week and how difficult the pitch was, we did well to hold them off. All in all, we will have to live with the point.

Hoffenheim 3-2 Mainz

Kevin Volland: This victory has Nagelsmann written all over it. TSG were known for attacking football in the past and we are looking to return to that. We want to play attacking football. It was extremely important to get the equaliser quickly after conceding the opener. Overall I think it was a great performance by all involved. We earned ourselves this hard-fought victory, by being the better team overall.

Bayern Munich 3-1 Darmstadt

Thomas Müller: It was a good goal from me, it felt good. I took it well on my chest then had to get it towards goal. I don’t want to linger on it too much. It is worth exactly the same if I score a terrible goal. We are happy that we picked up an important three points. On Tuesday in Turin, we will have to be tighter in defence, as we can’t afford to give them that many chances.
