Die Mannschaft jetted off to Russia on Thursday morning full of excitement ahead of this weekend’s Confederations Cup. A specially chartered Lufthansa flight with 21 players, trainers and coaches all board landed in Sochi at 12:39GMT.
Overcast temperatures of around 21 degrees greeted the boys on arrival, before they were transported to the team hotel in a Team Bus bearing the motto “11 players - 80 million hearts.” The hotel lies very close to the coast and beaches of the Black Sea and just a few hundred metres away from the 47,700-seater Olympic stadium. It’s there that Joachim Löw’s side will take on Australian in their opening group game at this year’s tournament on Monday at 17:00CEST.
A Russian folk band greeted the team upon arrival and the first training session will take place at 17:30 local time. Several hundred children from schools in Sochi have been invited to watch Die Mannschaft be put through their paces.
