Coaching and Technical Development Course completed

The inaugural Coaching and Technical Development Course (CTDC) of the German Football Association (DFB) has drawn to a close. From 08 – 16 October the heralded Sportschule Hennef near Cologne hosted 21 international coaches and football administrators from 10 countries.

The participant list included technical staff of the Japanese Football Association, former professional players from China and South Korea, and coaches from renowned international clubs such as Bangkok Glass and Manchester United.

Guidance from internationally experienced DFB Coaches

During the CTDC, participants gained valuable insights into coaching and training strategies from the world-renowned DFB Technical Department. Using the highly efficient concept of Challenge-Based Education (CBE), course participants were encouraged to use prior experiences to solve problems encountered in a healthy mix of theoretical and practical sessions. Topics covered in the CTDC included sports psychology, the DFB talent promotion and youth development system, goalkeeping, the DFB playing philosophy, and many more.

Participants were instructed and guided by internationally experienced DFB Coaches including the head of the Hennes-Weisweiler Academy and UEFO Pro-License Instructor Frank Wormuth and U-21 Assistant Coach Lars Isecke. Divided into small groups, the coaches had to apply their gained knowledge in multiple practical training sessions with regard to topics such as pressing against a 4-2-3-1 formation, attacking against a flat back four, and quick transition play.

Visit to the European Qualifier between Germany and Belgium

Highlights of the course included a visit to the European Qualifier between Germany and Belgium (3:1) as well as the Bundesliga fixture between Borussia M’Gladbach and Bayer Leverkusen (2:2). Moreover, participants were given the chance to observe the youth academies and training sessions of both Bundesliga teams prior to the match and were able to exchange ideas with Gladbach Assistant Coach Frank Geideck as well as Leverkusen head coach Robin Dutt and Sporting Director Rudi Völler.

Overall, participants praised the quality facilities at the Sportschule Hennef and the comprehensive course content. Many of them left Hennef in high spirit and will treasure the amiable atmosphere amongst the group as well as the knowledge and experiences transmitted by the CTDC staff.
