Carsten Rump set for first Bielefeld match against Dresden

Losing is forbidden! There are certainly easier propositions for a first game in a new job than a DFB Cup match away to a notoriously strong home side, but for interim Arminia Bielefeld head coach Carsten Rump, that is the task. His first match in the role comes against fellow 2. Bundesliga outift Dynamo Dresden in the competition’s last 16. Rump is taking on the role after the sacking of Rüdiger Rehm, as Arminia reached their tenth straight league game without a win this weekend.

Although Bielefeld remain without a league victory so far this season, the new setting with the coaching changes may prove liberating for them, but they face a tough task. Dresden have not lost a home game for six weeks, most recently beating VfB Stuttgart 5-0. Dynamo’s Pascal Testroet will be facing his former club, having played for Bielefeld between 2012 and 2015. In that time he managed 14 goals in 61 games, and since moving to Dresden has the record of 20 in 41.

The teams are familiar with each other, last having met in the 2014/15 league season. They shared a win each, Bielefeld taking a 4-1 home victory with Dynamo winning 2-0 back in Dresden. Both sides needed a penalty shootout in the first round to get them through. Arminia overcame Regional League side Rot-Weiss Essen 5-4 on spot kicks, while Dynamo beat Bundesliga surprise package RB Leipzig with the same score.
