FC Augsburg managed to secure a 2-1 victory on Bundesliga matchday 16 against FC Schalke to climb into 13th place, while Schalke suffer another set-back in the league.
Dominik Kohr scored Augsburg's opener after 34 minutes, firing a shot on target following a corner kick which took a deflection for Jeong-ho Hong's calf, giving S04 keeper Ralf Fährmann no chance to intervene. Leon Goretzka nearly levelled the score with his strike from 20 yards but it hit the woodwork and bounced to safety. With 20 minutes left to play, Schalke did grab the equaliser with Sead Kolasinac on target following a fine combination with Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting. But the hosts were not looking to split the points and regained their lead when Caiuby scored in stoppage time.
