BVB win again

Borussia Dortmund remain hot on the heels of FC Bayern München in the title race. Thomas Tuchel’s side beat struggling FC Augsburg 3-1 in Bavaria on Sunday – despite falling behind early on – to ensure that they are five points behind the record champions, with just seven games left to play.

FCA took the lead against the run of play after just 16 minutes when Alfred Finnbogason finished off an incisive counterattack. The Iceland star now has three goals for the club. Henrikh Mkhitaryan grabbed an equaliser with the final kick of the first half and Dortmund’s class shone through after the break, with both Gonzalo Castro (69’) and Adrian Ramos (75’) scoring to wrap up what turned out to be a relatively comfortable victory.

BVB are pretty much guaranteed a spot in next year’s Champions League but are still in the hunt for the title, even though their aspirations remain slim going into the final stages of the campaign. Augsburg are 15th in the table with 27 points, but worryingly for them both Eintracht Frankfurt (17th) and 1899 Hoffenheim (16th) have the same tally to their name. Werder Bremen and Darmstadt 98, who are 14th and 13th respectively, have 28.
