Bundesliga schedule pits champions Bayern against Hamburg in curtain raiser

The champions face the Bundesliga ever-presents. Record champions Bayern München will kick off the 53rd Bundesliga season with a home match against Hamburger SV. That emerged from the Bundesliga schedule which was released at 12:00 CEST exactly by the league association DFL on a specially designed website. The first whistle of the new campaign will be sounded at the Allianz Arena at 20:30 CEST on 14th August.

Some mouth-watering fixtures also await us on the two days after the Bayern vs. HSV clash. One of those takes place in Dortmund in the battle of the Borussia’s, with BVB facing Mönchengladbach. Last season’s runners-up VfL Wolfsburg take on Eintracht Frankfurt, and Werder Bremen play host to FC Schalke 04. New boys Darmstadt 98 welcome Hannover 96 in their opening game, while FC Ingolstadt begin their first Bundesliga campaign with an away trip to FSV Mainz 05.

The highlights of the first half of the season see Bayern face off against VfL Wolfsburg on matchday 6, with the Munich-club also taking on Borussia Dortmund on matchday 8 in ‘Die Klassiker’. The Rhine derby between 1. FC Köln and Borussia Mönchengladbach is scheduled for matchday 5, with the Ruhr derby between BVB and Schalke taking place on matchday 12. Bundesliga runs until its winter break on matchday 19 on 21st December, before resuming on 6th February.
