Bremen on course for Europa League

SV Werder Bremen have put themselves on a Europa League spot by securing a 2-0 victory against direct opponents Hertha BSC on Bundesliga matchday 31. FC Bayern München will get the chance to secure the title in the evening fixture with VfL Wolfsburg, after RB Leipzig only managed a 0-0 draw against FC Ingolstadt. Borussia Dortmund’s encounter with 1. FC Köln also produced a goalless draw, while Borussia Mönchengladbach managed a 2-1 win at 1. FSV Mainz 05. SV Darmstadt continued their winning run with a 3-0 victory over SC Freiburg, but remain the bottom-side.

Bremen, now in sixth place, managed a perfect start against Hertha: Fin Bartels and Max Kruse set the hosts on course for victory just 15 minutes into the game. Werder are now unbeaten from their last eleven games, while Hertha have failed to earn a point from their last nine away games.

Ingolstadt earns point in Leipzig

FC Ingolstadt recorded a vital point at second-placed side Leipzig, as they continue to battle against relegation. However, they will be without Alfredo Morales next weekend, after he was sent off following a second bookable offense in the later stages of the game with RBL.

Dortmund enjoyed the better start against Köln in front of a sold-out Signal Iduna Park, but midway through the first half the visitors emerged as equal opponents. Neither side was able to land the winning blow, which leaves Peter Stöger unbeaten in games with BVB. Dortmund might lose third place on Sunday, when TSG Hoffenheim host Eintracht Frankfurt, while Köln are still looking to qualify for Europe, sitting just three points behind Werder in sixth place.

Darmstadt earn third straight win

Gladbach seemingly recovered well from their DFB Cup semi-final loss, taking the lead in Mainz after 31 minutes through skipper Lars Stindl. Former U21 international Nico Schulz doubled their advantage shortly after the break, with Mainz reduced to a consolation goal from Yoshinori Muto in the closing stages of the game.

Bottom-side SV Darmstadt are on a three game winning streak following the victory over Freiburg. Felix Platte and Jerome Gondorf put Darmstadt 2-0 at half-time, with Sven Schipplock securing victory midway through the second half. The Lillies are however still eight points adrift from the relegation play-off spot, while Freiburg have dropped out of the Europa League ranks.
