Brazil and Hungary start with a win

Brazil and Hungary kicked off their U20 World Cup campaigns in New Zealand with a win in Group E. Whilst the Brazilians defeated Nigeria 4-2 in a highlight match in New Plymouth, the Hungarians had few problems against underdogs North Korea, winning 5-1.

Bence Mervo chipped in with three goals (17th, 49th, 82nd) to help Hungary on their way to victory, with Choe Ju Song’s first half equaliser (32nd) serving as a mere consolation for the Asian side. Zsolt Kalmar scored immediately after (33rd) to bury any hopes for the North Koreans, whilst David Forgacs also scored after 60 minutes for the U20s.

Brazil find the edge

Brazil found themselves behind in a tense match against the African Champions as Success Isaac (10th) and Musa Yahaya (28th) both scored to cancel out Gabriel’s early goal for Brazil. But the lead wouldn’t last long as Judivan (34th) levelled the score before half time. The South Americans took control of the game in the second half, taking the lead through Boschilia (59th), before Judivian wrapped things up with his second of the match (82nd).

Meanwhile in the other game in Germany’s Group F, Honduras won 4-3 against Uzbekistan to put them on level points with the German U20s. Jhow Benavidez (4th) and Bryan Rochez (20th) put the Central American side in the lead, before Dostonbek Khamdamov pulled one back for Uzbekistan. The second half provided even more goals with Honduras scoring twice through Kevin Alvarez (49th) and Rochez (90th +2), though Uzbekistan did pull back twice through Eldor Schomurodov (79th) and Zabikhillo Urinboev (90th +6).
