Boateng crowned "2016 Player of the Year" - Popp wins women’s vote

Germany international Jerome Boateng has been named Germany's 2016 Footballer of the Year. The 27-year-old centre back won the vote conducted by German sports journalists in the football magazine Kicker with 163 votes ahead of Bayern team mates Thomas Müller (95) and Robert Lewandowski (90). Boateng succeeds Belgium international Kevin De Bruyne, who had won the award in 2015 while playing for VfL Wolfsburg. The last defender to win Player of the Year was Dortmund's Jürgen Kohler in 1997. The annual vote was first introduced in 1960.

The Women's Player of the Year is Germany international Alexandra Popp. The Olympian athlete from VfL Wolfsburg secured 109 of the votes ahead of her Germany team mates Mandy Islacker (1. FFC Frankfurt) and Melanie Behringer (FC Bayern München).

2016's Coach of the Year is Dirk Schuster. The former professional guided his newly promoted Darmstadt 98 through a successful Bundesliga campaign and avoided relegation. He won with 256 of the votes ahead of Thomas Tuchel (Borussia Dortmund) and FC Bayern's former coach Pep Guardiola.
