Bernhard names squad for U17 training camp

The European Championship is over, which means that World Cup preparation is now on the cards for the Germany U17 side. Having recently won the title in Belarus, Anouschka Bernhard has selected 26 players to take part in a training camp, which will take place in Kamen on 10th and 11th June. Six of the squad were not involved in Euros.

The newcomers are keeper Tilda Novotny (1. FC Saarbrücken), defenders Paula Rößeling (VfL Wolfsburg) and Meret Wittje (Tus Nortof), as well as midfield trio Anna-Sophie Frehse (Turbine Potsdam), Janina Hechler (1. FFC Frankfurt) and Franziska Mai (FF USV Jena). Freiburg quintet Giulia Gwinn, Janina Minge, Vanessa Ziegler and Klara Bühl played in the tournament but will not attend this gathering.

Tests on the cards

The players will be subjected to two fitness tests on the Saturday (11th June). The first one will see them sprint for 15 minutes, whereas the other is an hour-long endurance challenge. This event is the first part of preparation for this year’s World Cup, which takes place in Jordan in September and October.

The draw for the tournament will take place on Monday, 30th May at the Al-Hussein Cultural Centre in Amman (17:30 CEST). 16 nations will compete in the tournament. Jordan qualified automatically as hosts. Germany, Spain and England will represent Europe; Brazil Paraguay and Venezuela are the South American sides, whereas Canada, Mexico and the USA are taking part on behalf of North America. Japan, North Korea and New Zealand complete the line-up.
