An incredible goal by Midfielder Toni Kroos decided the classic match between Germany's Under 21 and Italy on Tuesday. Kroos scored short after the break to let Germany win 1-0 (0-0). The encounter with Italy marked the start of the preparation for the final tournament of the EURO 2009 in Sweden.
The match was also the debut of interim coach Horst Hrubesch. Prior to the match, the DFB had terminated the working relationship with Under 21 coach Dieter Eilts.
"It was a game by two teams that will play for the title", Hrubesch said after the match. We did too less for the offense. But I think we will have good chances in Sweden."
