Defending champions Bayern München were unable to claim victory in their first Allianz Frauen-Bundesliga fixture of the new season. The Bavarians drew 1-1 with SC Freiburg on Saturday afternoon. Olympic champion Melanie Behringer came close to opening the scoring early on but was thwarted by Laura Benkart, with Gina Lewandowski heading harmlessly over moments. Bayern were the better side throughout the opening exchanges but the Freiburg defence were resolute. The duo were at the heart of FCB’s best moments before the break but were unable to hit the back of the net, meaning that the sides were level at the interval.
