Bayern back to winning ways

FC Bayern München put their minor crisis behind them on matchday 8 with a 2-0 victory at home to Borussia Mönchengladbach and extended their lead at the top of the table by a point. Meanwhile Hertha BSC continued their good form on Bundesliga matchday 8 with a 2-1 win over 1. FC Köln to claim second place. TSG 1899 Hoffenheim also remain unbeaten following a rather surprising 3-0 triumph at Bayer 04 Leverkusen. Borussia Dortmund required a last-minute equaliser at FC Ingolstadt to salvage a point as the sides were separated by a 3-3 draw. Wolfsburg’s new coach Valerien Ismael did not get off to a good start, losing 3-1 at Darmstadt 98. SC Freiburg prevailed at home over FC Augsburg, winning 2-1.

Convincing win for Bayern

Bayern dominated from the outset in front of a sold-out crowd of 75,000 at the Allianz Arena and deservedly took the lead in the 16th minute from an Arturo Vidal header. Douglas Costa gave the home side a two-goal cushion after finishing from a David Alaba cross. Mönchengladbach threatened to pull one back in the second half and André Hahn was unlucky to see his volley hit the post. However it finished 2-0 to the hosts as they made it their sixth league win of the season and a first defeat to Bayern for Gladbach head coach André Schubert.

Hertha's Vedad Ibisevic scored 13 minutes into the game with Köln, taking his tally to six goals this season. Köln’s goalscorer Anthony Modeste levelled the score after the break, but Germany U21 international Niklas Stark’s header in the 74th minute claimed all three points for Hertha.

Ingolstadt concede late equaliser

Dortmund went behind against Ingolstadt after just six minutes following Almog Cohen’s header. Dario Lezcano doubled the hosts’ lead after 24 minutes. Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang was on target for BVB after the break, but Lezcano immediately restored Ingolstadt’s two-goal lead just moments later. Dortmund restored hope with Adrian Ramos’ goal after 69 minutes, before youngster Christian Pulisic found the equaliser in stoppage time to salvage a point for the visitors.

Germany international Kevin Volland was sent off just six minutes into Leverkusen’s game against his former club Hoffenheim, and the visitors were able to take full advantage. Kerem Demirbay fired TSG into the lead after 15 minutes and goals from Sandro Wagner and Steven Zuber in the second half saw Hoffenheim complete a 3-0 win at Leverkusen.

Gomez goal not enough for Wolfsburg

Wolfsburg were also reduced to ten men early in their game, when Jeffrey Bruma was given his marching orders just 23 minutes into the first half. Darmstadt took the lead from the resulting free kick through Änis Ben-Hatira. Germany international Mario Gomez levelled the score for Wolfsburg on the hour mark, but Laszlo Kleinheisler and Sandro Sirigu both scored to give Darmstadt a 3-1 win over Wolfsburg.

Freiburg took the lead against Augsburg after 66 minutes through Maximilian Philip and Nils Petersen made shortly after. Halil Altintop grabbed a late consolation goal for FCA, but it wasn’t enough to deny Freiburg all three points.
