Bayern and Wolfsburg qualify for the quarter-finals

VfL Wolfsburg and FC Bayern München, the two top clubs in the Women’s Bundesliga, have both qualified for the quarter-finals of the Women’s Champions League. FC Bayern beat Scottish club Hibernian ladies 4-0 at home, after winning 6-0 away in the first leg last week. Wolfsburg drew against FC Chelsea ladies but still qualify for the quarter-finals as they won the first leg 3-0.

Anna Gerhardt (6’, 38’), Lisa Evans (33’) and Vivianne Miedema (72’) all got on the scoresheet for FC Bayern, Abigail Harrison scored for the guests in the 39th minute. Simone Laudehr made her comeback after suffering an LCL tear in her left ankle at the Olympic Games. Head coach Thomas Wörle brought her on as a substitute in the 69th minute.

Head coach Ralf Kellermann expected Chelsea to play better in the second leg, and they did. However, their weak performance in first leg means they did not qualify for the quarter-finals. Eniola Aluka gave Chelsea the lead in the 44th minute, however Sara Bjork Gunnarsdottir got the equaliser for VfL Wolfsburg in the 80th minute.

The quarter-final draw will take place next Monday (17th October) and the matches will be played on the 16th/17th November.
