Bayern and Gladbach complete quarter final line-up

FC Bayern München beat Eintracht Braunschweig at home to reach the quarter finals of the DFB Cup. Goals from David Alaba (45’+1) and Mario Götze (57’) helped the favourites progress. Max Kruse (53’) and Patrick Herrmann (83’) scored as Borussia Mönchengladbach beat Kickers Offenbach.

Bayern started strongly against the second division side and could’ve taken the lead through Ribéry (4’) and Robben (6’) early on. The Braunschweig defence was solid and made life difficult for the Bundesliga side. Another Ribéry effort (20’) and one from Robert Lewandowski (38’) didn’t trouble Rafał Gikiewicz but he was beaten shortly before the break. In injury time David Alaba rifled home a delightful free kick off the bar to give Bayern a half time lead. Shortly before the hour mark Mario Götze waltzed through the Braunschweig backline to double the lead. The rest of the game was a largely uneventful affair – Bayern held on to record a 2-0 win and to reach the quarter finals once again.

Kruse and Herrmann put Gladbach in last eight

The first half of the game between Kickers Offenbach and Borussia Mönchengladbach was a largely quiet affair. Offenbach’s Stefano Maier hit his own post (9’) and Thorgan Hazard fired narrowly wide (30’) but that was it in terms of goalmouth action. The Bundesliga side profited from a moment of madness from Markus Müller. The Offenbach player inexplicably handled the ball in the area to gift the Fohlenelf a penalty, which was slotted home gleefully by Max Kruse. Patrick Herrmann (74’) and Hazard (82’) had chances to double the lead before the former fired in off the post with seven minutes to play to seal Borussia’s berth in the quarter finals.
