Arsenal start 2017 with a win

The Gunners won their first game of 2017 on Sunday, despite having to cope without World Cup winners Mesut Özil (absent) and Shkodran Mustafi (unused sub). Arsène Wenger’s side comfortably beat Crystal Palace 2-0 and are now third in the table (40 points). Only Chelsea (49) and Liverpool (43) are better off.

Olivier Giroud fired them in front after just 17 minutes, with youngster Alex Iwobi wrapping up the victory early in the second half. Giroud scored with a spectacular scorpion kick. His effort flew over Palace keeper Wayne Hennessey and into the back of the net via the crossbar.
