Bundesliga side VfL Wolfsburg will be without captain Mario Gomez for the foreseeable future. The Germany star picked up an ankle injury during Saturday’s game against Hannover 96 (1-1). Further details regarding the injury will be made available after Gomez undergoes additional tests on Monday.
"The injury is really annoying but I want to and will do all I can go get back as quickly as possible," Gomez said following the diagnosis. "However, I know these injuries take time and patience." Sporting director Olaf Rebbe added: "Not having Mario in the team is a massive blow. We don't know yet how long we'll be without him but the team is strong enough to compensate."
Gomez sustained the injury as he attempted to take a shot. His leg gave way as he collected a pass from midfielder Josuha Guilavogui. He was taken off before the break.
