40 games without defeat: Kroos reaches quarter-finals with Madrid

Toni Kroos and Real Madrid have set a new Spanish record of remaining 40 games unbeaten after yesterday’s 3-3 draw against Sevilla. Sergio Ramos (83’) and Karim Benzema (90+3’) scored late goals for Real Madrid to ensure that they avoided losing their first game since April 2016, the 2-0 loss against VfL Wolfsburg in the Champions League.

Madrid have secured their place in the quarter-finals after winning the first leg 3-0 and drawing the second leg 3-3, however they struggled initially without FIFA World Footballer of the Year Cristiano Ronaldo. Danilo scored an own goal in the tenth minute to put the hosts ahead. Marco Assensio (48’) got Real back in it, however goals from Stevan Jovetic (53’) and Vicente Iborra (77’) gave Sevilla a 3-1 lead. Ramos and Benzema scored late goals to ensure Real Madrid maintained their 9-month unbeaten run.
