18 players selected for U17 qualifiers

DFB-Team U17 head coach Anouschka Bernhard has named 18 players in her squad for the upcoming European Championship qualifiers, which will take place in Austria later this month (19th-24th). The only uncapped player in the squad is goalkeeper Janina Leitzig, who plays for 1899 Hoffenheim. A further nine players are on standby. Preparation for the qualifiers gets under way in Frankfurt on 13th March.

Giulia Gwinn and Janina Minge, both of whom play for Freiburg, have already made 15 appearances for the U17s and they are consequently the most experienced players in the squad. Minge has also netted on eight occasions, making her the most lethal striker in the current squad, although Gwinn is hot on her heels with five. Vanessa Ziegler is another Freiburg star, meaning that club has more representatives in the squad than any other.

The qualifiers get under way for Germany on Saturday 19th March, when they face Switzerland in Lindabrunn (11:00 CET). They face Russia two days later in the same city (11:00 CET) before facing the hosts in Rohrendorf on 24th March (15:00 CET). The winner of the tournament will reach the European Championship, which takes place in Belarus later this year.
