100%: Augsburg, Schalke and Dortmund through

Miracle complete: Augsburg reach next round

FC Augsburg have done it – their European adventure is far from over. The Bundesliga side won their final match in Group L against Partizan Belgrade 3-1, and booked their place in the knockout stages of the Europa League.

They finished second behind Athletic Bilbao, meaning Markus Weinzierl’s side may have games against big teams such as Manchester United, SSC Napoli or FC Liverpool to look forward to after the draw on Monday.

4-0 in Tripoli: Schalke claim top spot

Even without their young guns, Schalke 04 reached the knockout stages of the Europa League as group winners. The Royal Blues stormed to a 4-0 win in Greece over Greek runners up Asteras Tripolis, and after securing first place, will avoid difficult draws against the likes of Manchester United and Liverpool in the next round.

Franco Di Santo (29‘), Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting (37‘/78‘) and Max Meyer (86‘) scored the goals for the team from Gelsenkirchen, who have gained confidence after two wins in a row. Leroy Sané and Leon Goretzka, arguably Schalke’s two best players this season, were allowed a rest.

BVB suffer against PAOK

Borussia Dortmund ended the group stages with a 1-0 defeat to PAOK Saloniki, finishing second overall. The German side had already secured qualification for the next round., and their second straight Europa League defeat didn’t change anything, especially as FK Krasnodar secured top spot with a 3-0 win over FK Qäbälä. Robert Mak (42’) scored the only goal of the game for the Greeks in front of 55,200 fans, 3,300 of which had made the journey from Saloniki.
