Burkardt called up in place of Havertz
Kai Havertz will miss the upcoming internationals against Bosnia and Herzegovina and the Netherlands. The Arsenal man will no longer join up with the squad as planned in Herzogenaurach on Monday due to a left knee complaint. Jonathan Burkardt was called up by Germany head coach Julian Nagelsmann on Sunday and will be Havertz’s replacement for the two UEFA Nations League games. The 45-time Germany youth international from 1. FSV Mainz 05 was European Champion in Hungary and Slovenia in 2021 alongside Germany U21s.
The Germany squad will meet up on Monday at the home of partner adidas in Herzogenaurach. On Friday (20:45 CEST), Germany first meet hosts Bosnia and Herzegovina in Zenica. Then on Monday, 14th October (20:45 CEST), the team take on EURO semi-finalists the Netherlands in the return Nations League game in Munich. At the moment, Germany lead Group 3 from the Netherlands on goal difference (both have four points), while Bosnia and Herzegovina and Hungary round out the group with a point apiece.
