Zieler: "Do ourselves proud"

After the game come the microphones. Journalists ask and players answer. Following every Bundesliga matchday, DFB.de summarise the opinions of the various Germany internationals involved. On matchday 29, it is the turn of Ron-Robert Zieler, Julian Brandt, and Nadiem Amiri amongst others.

Hertha BSC 2-2 Hannover 96

Ron-Robert Zieler: We performed better, played with passion and implemented our game plan well. It’s frustrating that we weren’t able to get the win. We want to approach every game similarly, and do ourselves proud. We did so today.

1. FC Köln 0-2 Bayer Leverkusen

Julian Brandt: There are worse things than winning the derby. We struggled to get into the match. Köln put the pressure on initially, but we got into our stride eventually and scored twice. The team is very relieved, and the fans are happy. We made a big point today, as we beat a direct competitor. It was a big step, too, in terms of the race for the Champions League.

Bernd Leno: It wasn’t about getting revenge. A derby win is of course brilliant for the team and the fans. The most important thing was making use of our opponents slipping up. It’s nice for me to now have four clean sheets in a row. That was the icing on the cake, the most important thing was getting the three points.

Eintracht Frankfurt 0-2 1899 Hoffenheim

Nadiem Amiri: I was only on the pitch for 77 seconds, it was pretty quick. We were very lucky, or Nagelsmann was very clever, that our two substitutes scored the goals. It was an excellent day, and important to get a win against a direct competitor - both mentally and in terms of the three points. We need to keep picking up points, it’s still tight at the bottom.

Jeremy Toljan: It was an extremely important win. If you look at the results, then we simply needed to get the win. There are still plenty of games to go. Nadiem took his goal very well; he was determined to make an impact on the match.

Schalke 04 2-2 Borussia Dortmund

Matthias Ginter: The game really lived up to expectations, especially in the second half. We made it difficult for ourselves in the first half, and didn’t create the chances. We lost the ball too frequently and exposed ourselves in terms of the counter. We improved in the second half, but ultimately we weren’t able to play as we know we can. For that reason, we have to settle for a draw.

VfB Stuttgart 1-3 Bayern München

Thomas Müller: We won. We did what we wanted to do, and are pleased. It was an action-packed match, and I would have been equally happy with a 1-0 win to be honest. We showed once again that we don’t slip up and for that reason it was a strong statement today.
