Würzburg to face Werder in Offenbach

FC Würzburger Kickers will take on SV Werder Bremen in the first round of the DFB Cup on Saturday, 12th August (20:45 CEST) in Offenbach. An agreement has been reached to rent the Sparda-Bank-Hessen-Stadion, which has a maximum capacity of approximately 20,000, for this cup tie.

“We are very glad that we have quickly been able to find a partner in Offenbach that will make this possible. The support we’ve had in sorting this out has been fantastic. For that, we are grateful to those at the stadium in Offenbach, in particular chief executive Andreas Herzog. We sent requests to a number of stadiums but the Bieberer Berg was in our view clearly the best option,” said Kickers board member Daniel Sauer. “We are now focusing on finding the best solutions for the fans to travel to the game.”

Frymuth: “A great shame for all parties”

“The moving of this DFB Pokal match has come about due to unexpected difficulties regarding the use of the Flyeralarm-Arena,” said Daniel Sauer. “Changing the time of the match to allow this tie to be held there, despite the tireless efforts of all involved from Würzburg and the DFB, is no longer possible.”

“For all parties, but especially the fans, it is a great shame when a club is unable to play their home matches at their own ground. That is what makes the DFB Pokal special. We will continue our constructive and open cooperation with the club to find a solution to this, in particular regarding their home games in the 3. Liga,” said Peter Frymuth, who as DFB Vice President is responsible for the organisation and footballing development of the DFB Pokal as well as the 3. Liga.
