World Rankings: Germany begin the New Year as number one

World champions Germany remain top of the FIFA World Rankings at the start of 2015 and go into the New Year as the number one team for the second time in their history following their spell there in 1993. Germany top the rankings with 1725 points while World Cup runners-up Argentina are in second place with 1538 points and World Cup quarter-finalists Colombia are third with 1450 points.

Belgium come next with 1417 points followed by the Netherlands with 1374, Brazil with 1316, Portugal and France both with 1160, Spain with 1142 and Uruguay with 1135 points. Germany’s next opponents Australia, who they play in Kaiserslautern on the 25th March, are in 100th place with 329 points.

As there have only been 16 games played that have affected the rankings since they were last published in December 2014, there were no changes to the first 45 positions. Major shifts in positions are expected in February, as the results of the Asian Cup and the African Cup of Nations will be included.
