World Cup winner Ginter set to join Gladbach

Borussia Mönchengladbach have completed the signing of recent Confederations Cup winner and Germany international Matthias Ginter from Borussia Dortmund, subject to a medical. Borussia Dortmund confirmed the transfer on Tuesday morning.

“We met Matthias Ginter’s wish to leave the club because of the current competition in our defence,” stated Dortmund sporting director Michael Zorc. Ginter’s contract was due to expire at Dortmund on 30th June 2019.

Ginter will fill the gap left in the Gladbach back-four, since Andreas Christensen returned to Premier League winners Chelsea FC after a two-year loan spell in Mönchengladbach. Former SC Freiburg player Ginter will play alongside Jannik Vestergaard in central defence.
