World Cup Training Camp: Neid pleased with results

Following the end of the first World Cup training camp, Germany Head Coach Silvia Neid has given a positive summary of the team’s time in Marbella. “The players have worked well together, concentrated and were focused. I am very pleased with how the training camp has gone,” said Neid, after travelling home from the six day training camp on Thursday.

“From pressing, to put pressure on the opponents, in midfield and attack as well as defensive movement and positioning without the ball, to playmaking and creating goal scoring opportunities, it was all covered in the Marbella training program,” said the 50-year-old, who wants to win her third title with the team at the World Cup in Canada (6th June to 5th July).

Germany will start to put the finishing touches to their World Cup preparation by pitting themselves against some first-class opponents at the Algarve Cup in Portugal (4th – 11th March) before facing a test against Brazil on the 8th April. Direct preparation for the tournament will begin on the 18th May with another international fixture scheduled. However, the opponent and the location still aren’t known. The team will leave for Canada on 31st May.

At the Women’s World Cup, in which for the first time 24 teams will compete, Germany will face the Ivory Coast (7th June), Norway (11th June, both games played in Ottawa) and Thailand (15th June, Winnipeg) in Group B.
