World Cup qualification: Die Mannschaft to face the Czech Republic

Germany have been drawn into an exciting group following today’s World Cup 2018 qualifying round draw in Russia. Die Mannschaft will face the Czech Republic, Northern Ireland, Norway, Azerbaijan and San Marino in Group C. The draw took place at Constantine Palace in St. Petersburg.

"I’m happy that we won’t play against France or Italy. We can be pleased about that. There will be some lovely stadiums. For Spain, for example, things look very difficult," said sporting director Oliver Bierhoff, who draw the teams himself. Spain find themselves in Group B will Italy, whilst the toughest group appears to be Group A with the Netherlands, France, Sweden and Bulgaria all being drawn together.

Qualification will start after EURO 2016 in France and will run from 4th September 2016 – 10th October 2017. The nine group winners will qualify directly for the finals, whilst the best eight second-placed sides will enter into the play-offs on 9th and 14th November.

The groups for the World Cup will be drawn in December 2017, with the tournament kicking off on 14th June 2018 in Moscow, where the tournament will also come to an end on 15th July.
