World Cup debutant Bremer: "The fact that I’m the youngest is irrelevant"

Manager Silvia Neid has announced her 23-strong squad for the Women’s World Cup in Canada (6th June – 5th July) and Pauline Bremer is one of those included. The 1. FFC Turbine Potsdam player is one of two U20 World Champions, who is set to compete in her first big tournament for the senior national team. DFB.de caught up with the 19-year-old attacker to talk about her call-up and the upcoming challenges that the team will face.

DFB.de: Pauline Bremer, you’re the youngest player in Silvia Neid’s squad. You were part of the side that triumphed at the U20 World Cup last year. How did you feel when you found out that you’d been selected for Germany’s World Cup squad?

Pauline Bremer: It was an indescribably wonderful feeling. I’ve been aiming for this for a long time and I’m now very happy that it’s worked out.

DFB.de: What was it like the day before the squad was announced?

Bremer: I was obviously very nervous. I tried not to think about it though and instead completely focus on training.

DFB.de: How do you feel in the Germany fold?

Bremer: We’re a real team and all get on well, therefore I feel very comfortable. The fact that I’m the youngest is irrelevant because we all respect one another a lot.

DFB.de: You won the U20 World Cup in Canada last year. How excited are you to be returning so soon to Canada to play in big tournament?

Bremer: I’m really looking forward to going to Canada, especially because of all the fond memories. It will all come back to me once again when we’re there. Playing in a World Cup with the U20s was an unbelievable experience and truly something special. I’m now really excited for my first big tournament with the senior national team. The atmosphere was super last year and it’ll be even better, as there’ll be even more fans, this year.

DFB.de: You’re set to face the Swiss national team on Wednesday (17:00 CEST) in Baden, Switzerland. What do you make of your opponents?

Bremer: Switzerland qualified in style for the World Cup and have massive potential. We already know some of the players from the Allianz Frauen-Bundesliga. We won’t underestimate them. I’m sure that it’ll be a good test for us. Internationals are always a special occasion. Some of my friends who live nearby will come to Baden.
