World Champions go into the New Year ranked number one

World Champions Germany go into the New Year top of the FIFA World Rankings for the second time in their history (The first occasion was 1993). The latest publication of the rankings sees Joachim Löw’s side remain top with 1725 points, ahead of fellow World Cup finalists Argentina (1538) and Colombia (1450).

Germany have picked up more rankings points in 2014 than any of the 209 FIFA members. They are 407 points better off than this time last year.

There were no changes in the top 23 as only 17 international fixtures took place in December. In total there 834 internationals in 2014, 64 of which came during the FIFA World Cup.
