World Champions Germany remain on top

Germany have retained their spot at the top of the FIFA world rankings at the beginning of this World Cup year. Five months before Joachim Löw’s men will make the trip to Russia, they are still leading the way ahead of Brazil, Portugal, Argentina and Belgium.

As there have only been a total of 22 friendlies that have been played since the release of FIFA’s last set of rankings in December, they have hardly changed from top to bottom. The top 10 has remained the same, while Iceland are the only newcomers to the top 20, after taking the spot of the Netherlands, who missed out on World Cup qualification. The next set of rankings will be published on 15th February 2018.
