World Champions arrive in Faro

The Germany national team have arrived in Faro on Portugal’s Atlantic coast, the location for Saturday’s EURO 2016 qualifier against hosts Gibraltar. DFB.de joined the team for their journey.

There are 1,915 kilometres separating Cologne and Gibraltar, but Die Mannschaft covered 2,000 km on the way to their qualifying match away from home. Did they overshoot the landing? Not exactly. The World Champions have flown to Faro following their friendly against the USA. Coincidentally, FARO is the name of a U.S. company that specialises in the production of portable measuring technology. However, it is also the name of a Portuguese city in the Algarve where Gibraltar play their home games, as they don’t have a stadium of their own that meets UEFA guidelines.

So it was indeed a slightly longer trip for Joachim Löw & Co. There was a little turbulence on the flight over, so the Lufthansa aircraft had to change its altitude a number of times. In other words, there were a few up and downs, much like in the match against America the night before. At 5pm local time, Die Mannschaft finally landed in Faro, before reaching the team quarters at around 6pm – a stylish and modern hotel on the Atlantic coast.
