Wolfsburg beat PSV as Gladbach earn point at Juventus

VfL Wolfsburg are on course for the Champions League round of 16 after they beat PSV Eindhoven 2-0 this evening, with goals from Bas Dost and Germany international Max Kruse. The Dutchman and the Germany attacker both scored in the second half for last year's Bundesliga runners-up, meaning that at the group-stage halfway point, they sit in a very strong position. Jürgen Locadia missed a last-minute penalty for the Dutch side after a foul by Wolfsburg goalkeeper Diego Benaglio.

Draxler: "We were clearly the better side"

"We were clearly the better side and we deserved to win," said World Cup winner Julian Draxler on Sky: "We took a big step forwards today. You need to win your home games, and we're doing that at the moment." Manager Klaus Allofs also appeared pleased: "It clicked very well for us today. We didn't set the game alight, but that's how you need to play in the Champions League sometimes."

Gladbach with well-earned point against Khedira's Juventus

Borussia Mönchengladbach earned their first big result in the Champions League but saw their chances of qualifying for the last 16 all but disappear. Interim manager André Schubert's side secured a notable 0-0 draw against Sami Khedira's Juventus, but with just one point from three games, the five-time German champions sit at the bottom of Group D, the so-called 'group of death'. Juve, by contrast, are on track for the knock-out rounds with seven points.

"This point isn't undeserved. You need to remember that Juve were in the final last year. Our aim now is to finish third in this group," said Borussia captain Granit Xhaka on ZDF. Sporting director Max Eberl added: "A point in Turin is not bad. We have something on the board now. We want to still be in Europe in the new year.
