Winter training camp: Leonie Maier back in the DFB squad

Leonie Maier is back in Germany’s Women’s team after almost eleven months out due to a cruciate ligament rupture. The 22-year-old defender from FC Bayern München has been called up to the squad of 26 by manager Silvia Neid that will travel to Marbella in Spain from 7th-12th February for their winter training camp.

Silvia Neid said: “I’m delighted that Leonie is back. She’s been working hard over the last few months and is on the way to being back at her best.”

The plan is for the DFB-Women’s team to fly in the evening of Saturday 7th February after a fitness test in Frankfurt. “We want to use all the time available to use in order to work on both tactical and technical aspects, as well as the fitness side of things.”

The winter training camp in Marbella will begin preparations for the World Cup in Canada, which will take place between 6th June and 6th July. The first game of the tournament of the DFB-Women will be on 7th June at 22:00 (MESZ) in Ottawa against Ivory Coast. They will go on to play runners-up at the European Championships, Norway, at the same venue on 11th June (22:00 MESZ), before finishing the group stage in Winnipeg on 15th June (22:00 MESZ) against Thailand.
