Who will be voted Player of the Year for 2016?

The DFB Women can look back on a successful year. In 2016, they’ve won 13 and drawn and lost just twice, while also winning the gold medal at the Olympic Games. This record obviously hints at a great collective strength, but the Fan Club Nationalmannschaft powered by Coca-Cola would like to honour an individual player who has stood out above the rest, by choosing the Player of the Year.

Anyone can take part in the voting on DFB.de, which will run until Saturday the 14th of January - just click on this link to cast your vote!

Ten players nominated

Only players who have played at least ten international games in 2016 and have therefore taken part in half of all Germany’s games this year are in the running – that means at least 765 minutes from 17 games. Coaches Silvia Neid and Steffi Jones deployed a total of 34 players this year, but only ten players fulfil this criteria.

Anja Mittag is a player who stands out on this list, playing in all 17 Germany matches in 2016, totalling 1182 minutes on the pitch. Alexandra Popp and Dzsenifer Marozsan both featured in 15 games (1173 & 1146 minutes respectively). Almuth Schult was the most-used goalkeeper this year with 14 appearances, playing 1242 minutes – the most minutes of any player. Tabea Kemme also played 14 times this year (894 minutes), while Sara Däbritz (967 minutes) and Isabel Kerschowski (856 minutes) contested 13 games each. Saskia Bartusiak played 12 times (1080 minutes) and last but not least, Melanie Behringer featured 10 times for the DFB Women this year, with 808 minutes of action.
