When do leagues start for Germany internationals in Europe?

It all starts on Friday in Germany with the first round of the DFB Cup ahead of the start of the Bundesliga season, so patience is needed for all things Bundesliga. The start of the season is still over a week away when Bayern München face Hamburger SV on Friday, 14th August on the opening day.

So what’s happening in the rest of Europe? In time for the new season, DFB.de is offering a new service which gives a roundup of international football and German national team players abroad. The league in focus will be in Spain, England, Italy, France and Turkey. Scheduling, results and tables will all be shown, as well as the news. When something important happens with a German connection, it will be reported on DFB.de.

So the most important question: when does the ball get rolling? DFB.de has provided a chronological overview and will show where players are playing.

France

France go first in Europe, which is undisputable in terms of football chronologically. And Germany will be joining the party. Ligue 1 starts on 7th August at 20:30 CEST and is the first major league in Europe to start the 2015/16 campaign. And there will be a German involved, with Kevin Trapp as PSG’s number one after his summer move from Frankfurt. With Zlatan Ibrahimovic on his side, he will be looking to cause stir in France. Trapp begins the season with champions PSG at Lille. Trapp is not alone in France, with former U20 international Diego Contento playing for Girondins Bordeaux. Contento’s season begins on Sunday 9th August at 17:00 CEST against Stade Reims.

ENGLAND

There are several World Cup winners now playing in the country that invented the game. Bastian Schweinsteiger recently dared to make the move to the island when he moved to Manchester United. United open the season on Saturday, 8th August at 13:45 CEST at home to Tottenham Hotspur.

A little later former Germany international Robert Huth is in action. The Berliner moved this summer to Leicester City and begins the season with his new club on Saturday, 8th August at 16:00 CEST against Sunderland.

Despite Lukas Posolski’s transfer to Istanbul, there will still be a lot of German spoken at Arsenal. World Cup winner Per Mertesacker is the leader of the side as captain, Mesut Özil brings the creativity and genius, and U21 international Serge Gnabry is more than just one for the future. First up for the Gunners this season is West Ham United on Sunday, 9th August at 14:30 CEST.

Two Germans will be facing each other in the game at 17:00 CEST on Sunday, 9th August, when Philipp Wollscheid and Stoke City host Liverpool, Emre Can and former U19 international Samed Yesil.

Turkey

Five current or former Germany internationals now ply their trade in Turkey’s Süper Lig. There were the dramatic transfers of Lukas Podolski to Galatasaray and Mario Gomez to Besiktas, as well as Koray Günter (Galatasaray), Andreas Beck and Tolgay Arslan (both Besiktas) who are all now in Istanbul. Galatasaray begin their season on Saturday, 15th August at 20:45 CEST at Sivasspor, whilst Besiktas go to Mersin Idmanyurdu on 16th August at 20:45 CEST.

Spain

All good players come in threes. Current World Cup winners Toni Kroos (Real Madrid) and Shkodran Mustafi (Valencia) as well as Champions League winner Marc-André ter Stegen (Barcelona) all play in the league of the former world champions. The trio still have some time before things get going in the Primera División, with fixtures not starting until 21st August. The first of the three to play is defender Mustafi, when his Valencia side play Rayo Vallecano on Saturday 22nd August at 22:00 CEST. The following day, ter Stegen will be looking to keep a clean sheet for Barcelona against Athletic Bilbao at 18:30 CEST. Real follow suit in the evening at 20:30 CEST when Toni Kroos and Real meet Sporting Gijón.

Italy

Gomez is gone; Khedira is there, so it is worth a look at Serie A, and not just because of Miroslav Klose. Khedira will be out of action for around two months because of his latest injury setback, so the Old Lady will begin the new season without their world champion. Juve start on Saturday 22nd August with a home game against Udinese.

The eternal Miro in the eternal city – this image will not last forever, but there’s still some time left. Miroslav Klose has decided to remain in Rome and he has nothing to prove to anybody. The 37-year-old starts his season on Saturday, 22nd August against Bologna at Lazio’s Olympic Stadium.
