Werner, Tah and Sané heading to the Euros

A number of prominent names are in the Germany squad for the upcoming U19 European Championship, which takes place in Greece in July. Marcus Sorg has selected a number of players with Bundesliga experience: Timo Baumgartl and Timo Werner (both VfB Stuttgart), Jonathan Tah (Hamburger SV), Nadiem Amiri (1899 Hoffenheim) and Leroy Sané (Schalke 04). The 18-man squad for the tournament was announced earlier today.

Sorg hasn’t been too experimental and has chosen to rely on the players who helped Germany qualify. Devante Parker (1. FSV Mainz 05) and Luca Waldschmidt (Eintracht Frankfurt) have also made top flight cameos. In terms of the U19s, Werner and FC Ingolstadt’s Max Christiansen are the most experienced players, having both picked up 11 caps. Nadien Amiri has made 10 appearances.

The team will meet in Frankfurt on 2nd July before heading to Thessaloniki the following day. They face Spain (7th July, 20:45 CEST), the Netherlands (10th July, 20:00 CEST) and Russia (13th July, 20:0 CEST) in the group stage. The final is scheduled for 19th July.
