Werner scores as Leipzig win 2-1 against Schalke

Newly-promoted side RB Leipzig are back at the top of the Bundesliga after they beat Schalke 04 2-1 on matchday 13 of the Bundesliga with Germany U21 international Timo Werner getting his name on the scoresheet. Germany international Marco Reus was instrumental during Borussia Dortmund’s victory over Borussia Mönchengladbach on Bundesliga matchday 13, as he provided three assists in the 4-1 win. Germany U21 international Paul Seguin was on target for VfL Wolfsburg but couldn’t prevent them from losing 3-2 at home to Hertha BSC. TSG 1899 Hoffenheim recorded a 4-0 win over 1. FC Köln, while SC Freiburg held Bayer 04 Leverkusen to a 1-1 draw. Finally, Werder Bremen secured an important 2-1 victory over FC Ingolstadt.

Leipzig got off to a blistering start against the Royal Blues. Referee Bastian Dankert pointed to the spot after just 19 seconds following a challenge between Werner and goalkeeper Ralf Fährmann, which Werner himself successfully put away. But the away side got themselves back on level terms through Sead Kolasinac. However Schalke were quick to concede after the break as Nastasic put the ball into his own net just two minutes after the restart in what turned out to be the winner for RBL.

It was Gladbach that hit the ground running in Dortmund and took the lead just six minutes into the match through Raffael. However, their lead lasted just sixty seconds as Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang quickly levelled. Lukasz Pisczek completed BVB’s comeback just seven minutes later and second half goals from Ousmane Dembélé and Aubameyang saw the hosts cruise to a 4-1 victory.

Seguin scores and gets sent off

Borja Mayoral grabbed the opener in Wolfsburg, but Hertha were quickly back on even terms through Marvin Plattenhardt after 16 minutes. The high pace continued, as Germany U21 international Paul Seguin restored the lead for the Wolves. Hertha fought back in the second half and again scored the equaliser, this time from Alexander Esswein’s long-range attempt. Goalscorer Seguin was sent-off in the closing stages of the game and Salomon Kalou’s converted stoppage time penalty allowed Hertha to snatch the three points in Wolfsburg.

Sandro Wagner opened the scoring for Hoffenheim, who remain unbeaten this season, after eight minutes. Nadiem Amiri doubled their advantage before the break. Another goal by Wagner and a late strike from Mark Uth gave Hoffenheim a comfortable 4-0 victory over Köln.

Haberer goal secures point for Freiburg

Freiburg escaped with a point from Leverkusen after Janik Haberer had given them a first-half lead scoring from a corner. Hakan Calhanoglu levelled on the hour mark and Leverkusen were given a late chance to secure a victory, but Alexander Schwolow managed to keep out a penalty attempt from Javier Hernandez.

Bremen took the lead 24 minutes into their game with Ingolstadt through Max Kruse. Markus Suttner scored from a direct free-kick to level the score, but Fin Bartels restored the lead for Werder midway through the second half as they secure much needed three points.
