Weidenfeller: "We are extremely disappointed in ourselves"

Max Meyer: We started the game well. We got forward with power and put them under pressure. The early goal put us in a good position. The fans were like a wall behind us and we wanted to do the same. I’m happy that I got to start. My performance was ok and I would like to build on that over the coming weeks. I must admit that the incident leading up to the goal to make it 2-0 was a bit lucky. I wanted to play the ball inside because I knew that someone would be there, and I was happy when I saw that Hunter was there. It’s disappointing that the same couldn’t have happened after the break as I could have maybe even scored.

VfL Wolfsburg 1–0 Borussia Mönchengladbach

Robin Knoche: Marcel put the ball back in and I tried to be at front post. I was then able to easily block the ball in some way and deflect it so that it fell into my path. We were of course lucky but nevertheless we were so happy about it. Straight after taking the lead the whole team threw themselves into every tackle and did everything they could to defend our lead. My biggest compliments go to the team and how we worked today.

Christoph Kramer: It’s an unlucky defeat because I thought we played well. We were unlucky to go behind in the first half and we had some good chances to equalise after the break. Wolfsburg were a tough nut to crack and lady luck wasn’t on our side in the latter stages when we pressed for an equaliser. When you play in Wolfsburg you need to be clinical and take your chances because you won’t get many. We didn’t do that today and consequently lost the game. Despite that, we are still in good positions in all three competitions so the defeat isn’t the end of the world.

André Hahn: That’s our third Bundesliga defeat in a row. It was unlucky and consequently we are annoyed. We didn’t put in a bad performance but we need to be more clinical in front of goal. We struggled in that regard today. There’s a lot of work to be done in front of us but I’m optimistic that we will return to form sooner rather than later.

Borussia Dortmund lost 2-0 against Eintracht Frankfurt and are now bottom of the table while Bayern München had to settle for a 1-0 win against Hertha BSC. Here’s the Bundesliga matchday 13 reaction from Germany’s stars:

Eintracht Frankfurt 2–0 Borussia Dortmund

Roman Weidenfeller: We are, just like you, extremely disappointed in ourselves. Today we once again did not do enough to turn things around but you can be sure that we are working all the time and trying to figure out how we are going to get ourselves out of this mess that we have created.

Hertha BSC 0-1 Bayern München

Jérôme Boateng: We were 1-0 up but we didn’t mount a determined effort to get the second which, based on the chances we had, we should have scored in the first half.

Manuel Neuer: At the end of the day it’s another normal result with the right victors. As a goalkeeper, I can be very happy with a 1-0 win.

Thomas Müller: We won 1-0 in Berlin. Arjen finished off my back-heel perfectly but after that we unfortunately didn’t do enough with the majority of our opportunities and that led to the second half being more exciting than we had wished.

Bayer 04 Leverkusen 5–1 1. FC Köln

Karim Bellarabi: This derby is always an important match, especially for the fans. It was important for us to get the three points so that we stayed ahead of the rest. We are happy that we have won and we had a good feeling from the get-go. A penalty can be given in any match and we did well to keep that in mind and make it 1-1 in the first half. During half time we were sure that we would win the game if we played to our strengths. We did that and therefore won the match.

TSG Hoffenheim 4-3 Hannover 96

Kevin Volland: We were the better team over 90 minutes but we kept making things unnecessarily difficult for ourselves. We twice led by two goals and let in some stupid goals. We have to cut that out in the next match. First and foremost I am happy that we have won again after three consecutive losses. Overall it was a good match for us.

Ron-Robert Zieler: All in all the result is of course not good enough, especially from a goalkeeping and defensive point of view. We conceded too many goals today and it’s a shame because we would have otherwise got a point. Our attack was very good today but you will not get any points if you concede four goals. My compliments go to the team for not giving up today but it was hard to keep coming back.

FC Schalke 04 4–1 1. FSV Mainz 05
