Volland: "we lacked passion"

Jonathan Tah: We did very well in possession in the first half, and scored two goals, which gave us a bit of secuirty. We then conceded an annoying goal. After the break, we allowed them far too many chances to counter. Ultimately, we did well to see the game out, and it was a deserved win.

1. FC Köln 0-0 1. FSV Mainz 05

Timo Horn: I didn’t have much to do today, the boys defended well. Mainz didn’t have many chances, and were seemingly happy with the point from early on. We did though manage to carve out a few good opportunities, but unfortunately were not able to use them. It was one of those games where you need to score once and then see out a gritty win.

Loris Karius: We didn’t allow them much, and had a few chances going forward. Köln were pressuring us more, but they didn’t have any huge chances. Köln didn’t do badly, but we needed to do better in an attacking sense. We defended well, and are pleased to take a point home, even though we wanted all three prior to kick off.

VfB Stuttgart 0-4 FC Augsburg

Timo Werner: The result is highly disappointing. Our performance was awful from the first to the last minute. To lose against the last-placed side at home should not be happening.

Hamburger SV 3-1 Borussia Dortmund

Lewis Holtby: It was a top performance from us as a team. We were very disciplined. René kept us in the game, and we were clinical going forward. We have lacked this in recent matches. We were very compact and always managed to get the blocks in. I am pleased that I could do my bit for the team. There was a great atmosphere in the stadium, you have to praise every single fan.

Off the pitch and straight into the media zone. Reporters ask, players answer. As always, DFB.de have rounded up all the quotes from Germany’s senior and youth internationals after their Bundesliga matches. Today we bring you the reaction from the likes of Ron-Robert Zieler, Benedikt Höwedes, Thomas Müller, Manuel Neuer, Christoph Kramer and Kevin Volland.

Hertha BSC 1-0 1899 Hoffenheim

Kevin Volland: The fans are frustrated – that’s understandable. They all have to work tomorrow, and sacrifice a lot for us. We lacked passion in the first half; we need to go into the tackles better. Then they scored a stupid goal, and we were chasing the game. We played better after the break, but we lacked the urgency. We are training well, but aren’t able to show this on the pitch. Every game is difficult at the moment, regardless of opposition.

Schalke 04 1-3 Bayern München

Benedikt Höwedes: We fought hard, and forced Bayern into a lot of horizontal passes. They didn’t have many chances, and we went behind due to a lack of concentration. There was a large amount of luck involved in their first goal. We did though keep attacking, and kept our heads held high. It’s frustrating that we didn’t get any reward for our efforts. We saw that we were capable of defending effectively against them for long periods of the game. We often outnumbered them, and were very disciplined. We were dangerous on the break, but could perhaps have chosen the final pass a bit better. We have our next chance against Leverkusen to get points against a direct rival and start to look up the table again.

Max Meyer: We played against perhaps the best team in the world, and didn’t give them much. We resisted well after the unlucky first goal and were courageous going forward. I didn’t think very much about the shot for our equaliser – it was instinctive. Unfortunately it wasn’t enough in the end, but we can build on this performance.

Thomas Müller: You have to work hard for every win in the Bundesliga. They didn’t make it easy for us, and adapted a five at the back system. They tried everything, so we had to give 100%, which I think we did well. It’s annoying to concede on a counter.

Manuel Neuer: We were deserved winners. Max Meyer’s shot was difficult, but I still should have stopped it. The ball sped up on the wet grass. I wanted to turn it around the post, but it didn’t work. We now have an eight-point cushion, but nothing has been won yet.

Borussia Mönchengladbach 2-1 Hannover 96

Ron-Robert Zieler: We are of course very frustrated. We can be annoyed not to pick any points today. On the other hand, it was a step in the right direction. We did well against a very good Gladbach side, but didn’t get a reward for our efforts. We could have secured ourselves a point, we had a good few chances to do so.

Eintracht Frankfurt 1-3 Bayer 04 Leverkusen

Christoph Kramer: We did very well in the first 20 to 30 minutes. We changed everything we had intended to, but then we let them get back into the game, despite them effectively being beaten. This was a negative. We needed to maintain our performance level from the opening 30 minutes, then it would have been an excellent match for us.
