Volland brace not enough for Hoffenheim win

Despite a brace of goals from Germany international Kevin Volland, TSG 1899 Hoffenheim were unable to record a win on Bundesliga matchday 8 as they were held to a 2-2 draw by VfB Stuttgart. Hannover 96 and World Champion Ron-Robert Zieler recorded a 1-0 victory against Werder Bremen, finally securing their first win of the campaign.

Borussia Mönchengladbach continued their revival with a 2-0 victory against fellow Champions League side and last year's runners-up VfL Wolfsburg. Hertha BSC continued their positive trend with a clear 3-0 win over Hamburger SV to jump into fourth place. Promoted side FC Ingolstadt also managed to replicate their strong display from recent weeks and claimed a 2-0 win against Eintracht Frankfurt.

Werner earns Stuttgart a last-minute draw

30.000 spectators in the Rhein-Neckar-Arena almost witnessed Hoffenheim take an early lead, but Ermin Bicakcic's header in the fourth minute only struck the woodwork. The home side controlled the affair but were unable to create any further clear chances until skipper Pirmin Schwegler was brought down in the area by Toni Sunjic in the 32nd minute. Volland converted comfortably from the spot and grabbed his fourth goal of the season.

Stuttgart pushed for the equaliser at the start of the second half and substitute Jan Kliment levelled the score just one minute after he was brought on. Hoffenheim were not stunned though and regained their lead after Volland finished off a well-executed counter attack. A goal from Timo Werner in the closing stages however meant that Hoffenheim and Stuttgart would share the points.

Nordtveit and Traore secure win for Gladbach

Both Gladbach and Wolfsburg had suffered Champions League defeats against Manchester teams during the week in the Champions League and both were visibly showing signs of fatigue, especially in the first half. The Intensity picked up in the second half and goals from Havard Nordtveit and Ibrahima Traore in the space of just four minutes earned Gladbach their next win under new manager Andre Schubert. Wolfsburg on the other hand are now without a win from their last four competitive matches.

Kalou and Ibisevic on target in Hertha victory

Hertha BSC continued their impressive start and have established themselves in the top region of the standings following a 3-0 win over Hamburger SV. A first half strike by Salomon Kalou and a brace from Vedad Ibisevic in the second half was enough for the capitol based club to earn their fourth win of the season and claim fourth place in the standings.

Hannover claim first win of the season

The northern derby between Hannover 96 and Werder Bremen took a good hour before providing the expected fireworks. Salif Sane bagged the only goal of the match ten minutes after the restart as Hannover claimed their first win of the season. Werder Bremen meanwhile have lost their last four games and dropped down to 14th place.

Ingolstadt earn late win against Frankfurt

Ingolstadt have ended their poor home run as Pascal Groß scored in the 78th minute to end a 348 minute long home goal drought. Stefan Lex added a second goal six minutes later as the promoted side recorded a 2-0 win over Frankfurt. FCI continue to play above their expectations and have already collected 14 points from eight games, while Frankfurt are without a win from their last four games.
