Video assistance to be used in the DFB-Pokal for the first time

Video assistance will be used in the quarter-finals of the DFB-Pokal, a first in the cup’s history. The DFB committee made the decision after having discussed it with the Elite Referee’s Commission. It will be implemented from the quarter-final as this represents a more economical and logistical solution.

While the infrastructure is already in place in the stadiums of Leverkusen, Frankfurt and Schalke, a temporary mobile van fitted with all the necessary equipment will be deployed for the tie between Bundesliga 3 side SC Paderborn and Bayern Munich. “The teams will play under exactly the same circumstances. Regardless of the pitch they’re playing on they will all have video assistance available,” said DFB vice-president Peter Frymuth on the matter.

Video assistance will also be used for the semi-finals on 17th and 18th April and for the final itself on 19th May.
