VfL Wolfsburg miss out on chance to return to top spot

VfL Wolfsburg missed out on the chance to overtake Bayern at the top of the table. Knowing that a win would see them usurp the Bavarians at the head of the table, Ralf Kellermann's team failed to break down a resolute FF USV Jena side who hung on for a point that their defensive performance deserved. Wolfsburg created countless chances throughout the match but a combination of poor finishing and resolute defending from Jena saw the game end goalless.

Turbine Potsdam had a challenging encounter on matchday 8 of the Allianz Frauen-Bundesliga. Bernd Schröder’s side drew 3-3 against winless MSV Duisburg, throwing away 2-0 and 3-2 leads in the process. Having lost 1-0 to table toppers FC Bayern München in the previous matchday, Potsdam now find themselves four points behind the leaders. The Zebras, coached by Inka Grings, moved off the bottom as a result of the draw by virtue of having a superior goal difference than Herforder SV. Both teams have just two points after eight matches.

1. FFC Frankfurt beat Bayer Leverkusen 3-0 to record their sixth win of the season. They are Bayern’s nearest rivals for top spot – they are just one point behind the Bavarians. 1899 Hoffenheim maintained their mid-table position with an emphatic 3-0 victory over Herforder SV, who dropped to bottom place in the process. SGS Essen beat SC Freiburg 4-1, having romped to a four goal lead at the interval.
