USA and Canada qualify for the Olympics

Record Olympic Champions United States and bronze-medallist from the London Olympic Games Canada have qualified for the summer games in Rio de Janeiro. World champions United States secured a 5-0 victory over Trinidad and Tobago in Miami, Florida to reach the final of the CONCACAF qualification tournament. Canada booked their ticket to Rio with a 3-1 win against Costa Rica.

USA’s Alex Morgan was the outstanding player on the pitch, paving the way to America’s sixth qualification to the Olympic Games in as many tournaments with three goals of her own. Tobin Heath and World Women’s Player of the Year Carli Lloyd provided the other goals. Christine Sinclair bagged a brace during Canada’s victory over Costa Rica, as they claimed their third qualification to the summer games. Previously qualified: Record European Champions Germany, France, Colombia, Zimbabwe, South Africa and New Zealand, alongside hosts Brazil.
