Under 21: Germany loses first leg 0-1 in England

The German Under 21 national team has lost the first leg of the playoffs for the European Championship 2007 in the Netherlands on Friday 0-1 in England. The decisive goal for the hosts in front of 30.919 visitors in Coventry fell in the 76th minute, when defender Leighton Baines scored with a thrilling shot from 30 metres.

The English team controlled the first half and missed several chances, while the team of German coach Dieter Eilts came close to scoring in the second half.

The second leg will take place in Leverkusen on Tuesday (8.15 pm). The winner of the playoffs will take part in the EC finals.
