U21 European Championship draw: Germany face Italy, Denmark and Czech Republic

The Germany U21 national team will take on record champions Italy, the Czech Republic and Denmark in group C at the U21 European Championships in Poland in June 2017. The teams were drawn at the ICE Congress Centre in Krakow on Thursday evening under the supervision of UEFA’s director of competitions Giorgio Marchetti.

Germany take on the Czech Republic in their opening match of the tournament on 18th June in Krakow. They then face Denmark again in Krakow. The team’s final group game takes place on 24th June against Italy in Tychy.

Current champions Sweden to face England

Marek Kozminski, the former Polish international and ambassador for the U21s, drew title defenders Sweden in Group A with hosts Poland, England and Slovakia. Poland and Slovakia will kick off the tournament on 16th June. Portugal, Spain, Serbia and Macedonia make up group B.

Germany were one of three teams in pot 1 due to their high UEFA ranking and a perfect record in qualification with ten victories from ten games. Portugal and Poland made up the rest of pot 1.

12 teams will start at the tournament finals in Poland. The three group winners as well as the best second-placed side from the three groups will progress through to the semi-finals, which take place in Krakow and Tychy on 27th June. The final will be in the Józef-Piłsudski-Stadion in Krakow.
