U20s win prestigious match in Holland

The Germany U20s put in a strong performance to beat their counterparts from the Netherlands 1-0 in a friendly. DFB coach Frank Kramer’s team beat the Oranje team in front of 650 spectators at de Boshoek Sports Park in Hardenberg through Görkem Saglam’s goal. It was the first win of the new international season for Germany’s U20s.

“I’m very pleased with the team’s performance today, the win is very important,” said Kramer. “We defended well against a first-class Netherlands team and made chances for ourselves. If I had to criticise something, then I’d say we didn’t score enough goals.”

Saglam scores penalty to win the match

Germany were alert and threatening around the Netherlands goal right from the beginning. Netherlands’ defender Leon Bergsma unknowingly helped Germany in the 24th minute when he fouled Etienne Amenyido, who was charging forwards, in the box. The foul resulted in a penalty being awarded to the German team, which Görkem Saglam converted confidently to score the only goal of the match.

An entertaining and intense game continued into the second half after the break. The Germany squad created good chances but did not manage to convert any of their further opportunities. The entire Netherlands team pushed forward towards the end of the encounter, but weren’t able to put anything past in-form keeper Constantin Frommann, so the final result remained 1-0 to the Germany U20s.
